MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Angry supporters of President Rodrigo Duterte blamed Vice President Leni Robredo for the two earthquakes that occurred in Batangas on Saturday afternoon.

The twin quakes, with measured magnitudes of 5.7 and 6.0, rocked Metro Manila and nearby provinces. In less than an hour, a crowd of about 2,000 Duterte supporters was assembled at Luneta (with the organizers claiming crowd numbers of more than 200,000), with angry chants blaming the Vice President as the cause of the earthquakes.

“Fake VP! Impeach Leni Lugaw!,” shouted a Duterte supporter when prompted for comment by one of the reporters present.

The same supporter shouted “Fake VP! Impeach Leni Lugaw!” after the reporter’s follow-up question about the reason for their comment.

Additionally, Palace bloggers Mocha Uson, Sass Sasot, and Rey Joseph Nieto (a.k.a. “Thinking Pinoy”) also blamed Senators Leila De Lima and Antonio Trillanes IV, former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino, as well as members of the media for the earthquakes.

“Mga Ka-DDS, itong mga PRESSTITUTES mula sa Bias Media at LP ay nagpapatuloy na NAGDEDESTABILISE sa ating bansa. Sila ang sanhi ng mga lindol. No to YELLOW TAE!,” wrote Uson on her Facebook page.

The Office of the Vice President denied the allegations, calling them “absurd,” “devoid of any logic,” and “something that looks like a product of a satirical news article.”

As of press time, Communications Secretary Martin Andanar and Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella have not responded to any requests for comment.
